Intro to agentic coding with Claude Code

Claude Code can write, run, and fix software for you, but only if you know how to direct it. In this course, you’ll learn agentic coding from the ground up: installing Claude Code, giving it good instructions, controlling what it’s allowed to do, managing context, and using it with uv and Git. Through four hands-on exercises, you’ll build real programs, check what Claude wrote, and improve the results.

Claude Code doesn’t just suggest code. It reads your files, writes programs, runs them, and fixes what breaks. That power is only useful if you know how to direct it. In this course, you’ll learn how to work with Claude Code from the very beginning, using it to build real programs in Python. You’ll need a paid Claude plan or API account to follow along.

  • What agentic coding is, and how Claude Code differs from a chatbot
  • How to install Claude Code, choose a model, and track your usage
  • How to write prompts and CLAUDE.md files that get better results
  • How permissions, auto mode, and plan mode keep you in control
  • What context is, and how to manage it with /context, /compact, and /clear
  • How to use Claude Code with uv, Git, and automated tests
  • How to undo mistakes with /rewind, and interrupt or redirect Claude as it works
  • How to use screenshots to improve a user interface, and remote control to work from your phone

This course, like all others on LernerPython.com, is taught by Reuven Lerner.
